New Mercies Every Morning

Date: December 7, 2025

Scripture Reading: Lamentations 3:22-24

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness.
I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for Him.’”

These verses rise out of a book filled with sorrow, yet they shine with some of the most hope-filled words in all of Scripture. Jeremiah looks at the devastation around him, but instead of being swallowed by despair, he lifts his eyes to the character of God. Everything around him may have been shaken, but God’s love had not moved. His compassion had not run out. His mercy had not expired.

What makes this passage so powerful is that Jeremiah declares these truths in the middle of hardship — not after it ended. He teaches us that hope is not rooted in perfect circumstances but in a perfect God. When life feels heavy, confusing, or painful, God does not abandon His people. His mercies rise with the morning, meeting us with fresh strength for each new day.

Jeremiah also declares, “The Lord is my portion.” He recognizes that God Himself is enough. Not the resolution of his problems. Not the return of comfort. Not the restoration of what was lost. God alone is his portion, his satisfaction, his strength. When we learn to rest in who God is rather than what we feel, hope becomes unshakable.
