Lord, Let Our Eyes Be Opened

Date: December 9, 2025

Scripture Reading: Matthew 20:33-34

“‘Lord,’ they answered, ‘we want our sight.’ Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed Him.”

Two blind men sit on the roadside as Jesus passes by. They cannot see Him, but they hear that He is near — and that is enough for them to cry out with bold faith. When the crowd tries to silence them, they only call louder. Their desperation is not undignified; it is honest. When Jesus invites them to speak their desire, their response is simple and pure: “Lord, we want our sight.”

Jesus is moved with compassion. He does not ignore their cry, nor does He complicate their request. He touches their eyes, restores their vision, and immediately they follow Him. Their physical healing reflects a deeper spiritual truth: when we come to Jesus with honest need and a heart that longs to see clearly, He responds with mercy and restoration.

This passage teaches us that spiritual blindness is healed the same way — through humble dependence and a genuine desire for Jesus to reveal Himself. Many of us need God to open our eyes to His will, His presence, His truth, or His direction. And just like these men, we are invited to ask boldly for clarity and sight.
