Joy That Leads to Worship

Date: December 21, 2025

Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:10-11

“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with His mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”

The Magi’s journey reaches its climax not when they find the house, but when they encounter Jesus. Scripture tells us they were overjoyed — a joy that overflowed into worship. Their response was immediate and wholehearted. They bowed down, acknowledged who Jesus was, and offered Him their treasures. Their joy did not stay internal; it moved them to action.

This passage reveals an important truth about worship. Worship is not driven by obligation or routine, but by recognition. When the Magi realized who stood before them, their posture changed. Joy led to humility. Wonder led to surrender. Worship became the only appropriate response to the presence of Christ.

Their gifts were valuable, intentional, and symbolic, but the greatest offering they brought was themselves. They traveled far, trusted God’s guidance, and laid their best at the feet of Jesus. True worship still looks like this today — not merely words or songs, but hearts fully yielded to Christ.
