Alive by Grace

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:4-5
“But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”
These verses mark one of the most powerful turning points in all of Scripture. Paul paints a clear picture of our condition apart from God — spiritually dead, unable to rescue ourselves, and separated by sin. Then everything changes with two words: “But God.” Our story does not end with our brokenness; it is interrupted by God’s mercy and love.
God’s response to our helpless state was not distance or condemnation, but compassion. He is described as rich in mercy and great in love. Salvation begins not with human effort, improvement, or worthiness, but with God’s initiative. Even when we had nothing to offer, God made us alive with Christ. Grace is not earned; it is given.
Being made alive changes everything. It reshapes our identity, our purpose, and our hope. We no longer live trying to escape death; we live from a place of new life. Grace becomes the foundation of our faith and the motivation for obedience. What God has done for us in Christ invites gratitude, humility, and a life that reflects His mercy.
