A Holy House

Scripture Reading: Matthew 21:12-13
“Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. ‘It is written,’ He said to them, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers.’”
When Jesus entered the temple and saw people using it for selfish gain, He responded with bold, righteous action. He overturned tables, cleared out corruption, and restored the temple to what it was intended to be: a sacred place of prayer and communion with God.
This moment reveals Jesus’ deep passion for holiness. But it also directs us inward.
Scripture teaches that we are now the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). That means this passage isn’t only about a physical building — it’s about the state of our hearts. Just as the temple became cluttered with distractions and dishonor, our hearts can also become crowded with things that don’t belong: fear, bitterness, hidden sin, unhealthy patterns, or misplaced priorities.
When Jesus “overturns tables” in our lives, He’s not acting out of anger — He’s acting out of love. His correction restores clarity, purity, and closeness with Him. He removes what pulls us away so we can live fully devoted to the Father.
He desires that our hearts be houses of prayer — places of honesty, surrender, worship, and intimacy with Him.
